1. What's the solution?
a) The papads have become soft and moist.
Ans: The papads need to be dried in the Sun till the moisture get dried.

b) Fruits like mangoes, amlas, guavas and vegetables like peas onions, tomatoes, fenugreek are available in plenty only in certain seasons.
Ans: Fruits like mangoes, amlas, guavas and vegetables like peas onions, tomatoes, fenugreek are available in plenty only in certain seasons.But it can preserved by using different methods such as in the form of jams, juices, pastes,pickles etc.

2. Use your brain power!
Semolina (shevaya) do not get spoiled for a very long time . But kheer made from them spoils easily. Why is this so?
Ans: Semolina are dried so it do not get spoiled but kheer has water quantity as well as warmth and air.So it got spoiled.

3. Find and correct the wrong statements.
a. When something is boiled, the micro-organisms in it are destroyed.
Ans: This statement is correct.

b. Our food does not get spoiled when micro-organisms begin to grow in it.
Ans: This statement is wrong.

Ans: This statement is wrong.

Ans: Wrong statement.

4. Answer the following questions.

a. What are the different methods of Preserving food?
Ans: Drying, cooling, boiling and placing in airtight containers are the different methods of Preserving food.

b. Why do we avoid eating food that has got spoiled?
Ans: We avoid eating food that has got spoiled because it can cause a stomachache, diarrhea, vomiting etc.

c. Why do we make jams from fruits?
Ans: We do make jams from fruits because we can use it till the next season.
d. What are preservatives?
Ans: Sugar, salt, asafoetida(hing), mustard, oil and vinegar are examples of preservatives.

e. Find out the names of the different spices. Also find out which part of their plant they are.
Ans:
1. There are different spices such as cinnamon (dalchini), cardamom (velchi), bell leaves (tamalpatra) cloves (lavang), coriander seeds ( dhana), cumin seeds(jeera), black pepper( kali mirch), nutmeg(jaifal), etc.
2. coriander seeds ( dhana), cumin seeds(jeera), black pepper( kali mirch) are seeds of plant.
3.cinnamon (dalchini) is s part of stem of the plant.
4. Cardamom and nutmeg are fruits.
5. Bell leaves are leaves of plant while cloves are dried peduncles of a flower.
